Spotted last weekend at Interclassics Maastricht: Some will call it Sakrileg or sacrilege as this amazing clean 1969 LWB VW Typ 2 T2 (Car) Transporter is fitted with a watercooled Subaru flat four. And no, not a turbo’d STI unit, just a humble 74hp 1.8. Has air suspension, ready for action. They’re asking quite a lot for it though: € 54,950.

Man, that is freaking cool! Not a great value, but definitely great looking.

Well, that’s what they ask for it online. IIRC there was asked about 34k euros on the paper on the windshield just there. So it’s probably “negotiable” ;-)

Very cool, but I wonder how it would perform with a 3200 lb car on the back with that engine?

I wonder if that would even be legal as this one won’t be weighing that much anyway ;-)

I’m sure it is. I’d be hard pressed to call that a great value either, but the buyer of this won’t care. Nor will I judge them for it :)

People have been putting Subaru engines in VW’s for a long time, so it’s not really sacrilege anymore, I don’t think. It’s a really nice truck. What are those bubbles on the buggy?

It definitely was a looker. The Bubbles? A car needs headlights remember?
It’s a Ruska Super Buggy!
